Jaipur to Udaipur Taxi

A Jaipur to Udaipur taxi covers about 395 kilometres and takes six and a half to seven hours by road via Ajmer and Bhilwara. The fare includes fuel, driver allowance, toll and state permits. Chittorgarh, Pushkar and Nathdwara can be added as stops on the way.

Udaipur is the softest of Rajasthan’s big cities — lakes instead of desert, palaces reflected in water instead of forts on ridges. It is the usual last stop on a Rajasthan loop, and the drive down from Jaipur is straightforward.

The drive

Roughly 395 kilometres, six and a half to seven hours of driving via Ajmer and Bhilwara on good four-lane highway for most of the way. An eight o’clock start gets you to Udaipur by mid-afternoon with the evening free for a boat ride on Lake Pichola.

Worth stopping for on the way

• Chittorgarh — the largest fort in India by area, and the most significant one in Rajput history. It deserves two hours and sits close to the route. This is the stop we recommend above all others on this drive.
• Pushkar and Ajmer — the sacred lake and the Dargah, both within the first three hours.
• Nathdwara — the Shrinathji temple, about an hour short of Udaipur.

Adding Chittorgarh makes this a full day rather than a transfer, and it is worth it if you are not coming back this way.

What the fare covers

Once you are there

The City Palace complex on the lake shore, a sunset boat ride past the Lake Palace, Saheliyon ki Bari, and the Jagdish temple in the old town. Two nights is the minimum that does Udaipur justice; three is better if you want a day trip to Kumbhalgarh and the Ranakpur Jain temples.
