A Jaipur to Khatu Shyam Ji taxi covers about 80 kilometres and takes one and a half to two hours via Chomu and Reengus. Khatu Shyam ji is one of the most visited temples in Rajasthan and the nearest major pilgrimage from Jaipur. It is close enough to be a half day and busy enough that the half day only works if you start early.
The drive
About 80 kilometres and one and a half to two hours via Chomu and Reengus. We normally leave Jaipur between four and five in the morning. That is not us being dramatic — it is the difference between a darshan that takes twenty minutes and one that takes three hours.
When it is busiest
- Ekadashi, twice a month, draws very large crowds.
- Phalguna Mela in February or March is the biggest gathering of the year, when lakhs of pilgrims walk the route on foot. The roads near Reengus are restricted and the last stretch may have to be walked.
- Weekends are consistently heavier than weekdays.

At the temple
Mobile phones and bags are not allowed inside and there are lockers near the entrance. Prasad and offerings are sold in the bazaar on the approach. The main darshan queue is covered for most of its length, which matters in summer.
Combining it with Salasar
Most guests do Salasar Balaji on the same trip — it is about sixty kilometres further on, and the two together make one long day or a comfortable overnight. It is the single most common pilgrimage booking we run.
