Golden Triangle Tour

The Golden Triangle is the most popular route in India for a reason: in under a week it gives you the capital, the Taj Mahal, and the Pink City — three completely different faces of the country, joined by good roads. It’s the ideal first trip, and the one we’d recommend if you’ve never been to north India before.

The mistake most operators make is cramming it into four days, which turns it into a sequence of long drives with monuments bolted on. Our version gives each city room to breathe.

The route, day by day

Your trip usually begins in Delhi — Old Delhi’s Jama Masjid and the lanes of Chandni Chowk, New Delhi’s India Gate, Qutub Minar and Humayun’s Tomb. A city of two halves, and a proper introduction to the country.

Then to Agra and the Taj Mahal. We time this for sunrise where we can — the Taj at dawn, before the crowds and in soft light, is a different experience from the midday crush. Agra Fort, often overlooked, is worth the morning too.

On the drive to Jaipur you’ll stop at Fatehpur Sikri, the perfectly preserved Mughal capital that was abandoned within a few decades of being built — a ghost city in red sandstone.

Finally, Jaipur — Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, and the bazaars of the old city. Two nights here means you actually see it rather than rushing through.
